The Burf

Hello and welcome to Cityboxer, I'm glad you've arrived here. My name is Mark Burford, but everyone calls me Burf. I'm the creator of Cityboxer and the head coach of the Cityboxer Pro Boxing Team. Five years ago I re-opened the legendary Ring Boxing Club here in Southwark and started on, what has become, my mission. Quite simply, to get people involved in boxing and bring people into this amazing sport. It has been, to date, an incredible journey and a real learning curve. Creating an environment that serviced the needs of our members as well as finding personnel from the pro-fight game, fighters, managers and promoters, who understood the Cityboxer concept has been, to say the least, challenging. However, I'm satisfied that we have that blend.

Our headquarters, The Ring, is undoubtedly the best 'real' boxing club in central London. Not just an amazing facility, but a great place to learn the noble art at a level you're comfortable with. It's also the headquarters of the Cityboxer Pro Boxing Team, which means the opportunity to train along-side not only the team, but also a wide range of fighters who come through the club to train with us. Don't be surprised also if you find yourself rubbing shoulders with a celebrity you've seen on the pages of Hello magazine...it's that kind of place!

And that's what Cityboxer is about, delivering an incredible experience. Boxing has a unique glamour all of it's own, a strange and intangible quality that has lots of shades and levels. It's a journey. A journey that starts with fitness and some pad work, after that...it's up to you! Have a look at the clubs, have a look at the pro section and a look round the online shop. If you want an intro session, book it! I promise you'll enjoy it. If you’re the sort of person who expects a free towel, appreciates nanny-state values and wouldn't dare stand out from the crowd, to be honest, Cityboxer isn't for you (don't worry, there are literally hundreds of leisure clubs where you'll fit right in). However, if you like something very different and unique, are pro active about yourself and like to take a chance or two...I think you'll appreciate where we are coming from. As I always say, whatever level you take it to, even if it's simply watching a pro show...you can play football and you can play rugby... but you can't play boxing!
